Initiative’s Participation in Official Meetings between Syria and Jordan to Strengthen Bilateral Integration

The Jordanian capital, Amman, hosted the Syrian delegation on Wednesday, 2/7/2025, in an official working visit organized by the Syrian International Business Association (SIBA Jordan). The delegation was led by the Governor of Damascus, Mr. Maher Marwan, accompanied by the Governor of Rural Damascus, Mr. Amer Sheikh, with the aim of exploring ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

The delegation met with Jordanian Minister of Interior, Mr. Mazen Al-Faraya, and discussed areas of security and administrative cooperation, as well as ways to exchange experience in provincial governance to improve local performance and coordinate efforts. Both sides emphasized the importance of integration between Damascus and Amman, and the need to unify efforts and share successful practices in local governance, public services, and sustainable urban planning.

In his remarks, the Governor of Damascus noted that Syria is expected to witness significant progress in the next three years, affirming its political, economic, and social recovery. He thanked the Jordanian government for its hospitality toward Syrians, stating that Syrians in Jordan were among their brothers and kin. He highlighted Syria’s current efforts to develop key sectors, especially digitization and infrastructure, as vital elements to improving citizens’ lives.

For his part, the Governor of Rural Damascus praised Jordan’s warm reception of Syrians for decades. He acknowledged the crimes committed by the former Syrian regime and expressed appreciation for Jordan’s ongoing support. He spoke about the Syrian people’s resilience and their experience in overcoming hardship, and the pivotal role played by local communities in restoring schools, mosques, and infrastructure. He called for unified efforts to support Syria and continue offering initiatives.

The meeting featured discussions on the economic situation, investment opportunities, and living conditions. Several proposals were raised, including allocating industrial zones to attract investors and facilitate land ownership. In response, the Governor of Damascus emphasized the need for realism in expectations and not to burden the current government with past responsibilities. He explained that reconstruction takes time and noted that several companies are ready to engage when the conditions are right.

He also mentioned upcoming Syrian-Jordanian cooperation in import and export, as well as future economic measures to be announced. He pointed out that the lifting of sanctions on Syria has increased investor interest and highlighted the Qasioun Mountain development project as part of efforts to support the tourism sector.
